NFL Super Bowl champion and Pro Bowl veteran Chris Hope created the iCHOPE Celebrity Basketball Game as a way to give back to his hometown, and that's great news for us!  We enjoyed a great visit with Chris and his wife, Linda.  Several of our clients shared their brave stories, of how they moved from desperate situations to a hopeful future and how the support and guidance they recevied from Pilgrims' Inn made all the difference.  The couple decided our work was a good fit with their vision for giving back to their community.  We are incredibly grateful for the support we are getting from iCHOPE - it means so much to have the resources to provide a helping hand to the people who need it most in our area, especially when the number of requests for our help remains at their highest in our history.

The game will be hosted at Chris Hope's alma mater, Rock Hill High School in Rock Hill, SC on Saturday, May 19th, at 6:30pm.  It will feature a strong lineup of NFL stars, many of whom hail from the Rock Hill area.  We are thrilled to work with Chris and his foundation.  We are dedicated to making sure every dollar we gain is used to make the greatest possible difference in our coummunity.  This event will be a great way for us all to come together to celebrate Rock Hill and look for new ways to lift up the poeople of our community.

Scheduled players include Carolina Panthers Receiver and All-Pro Steve Smith, Huston Texas Cornerback and Rock Hill native Johnathon Joseph, Cleveland Browns Receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, St. Louis Rams Cornerback Cortland Finnegan, Green Bay Packers Recevier and Rock Hill High graduate Tori Gurley, Former Pro Bowl Cornerback Dre Bly, and Safety Deon Grant of the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants.  In addition, former South Point High School and University of South Carolina stars Jadavon Clowney and Stephon Gilmore will appear.

Chris Hope is an 11-year NFL veteran who earned a Super Bowl championship in 2005 with the Pittsburg Steelers and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2008 with the Tennessee Titans.  The Rock Hill, SC native was a communications major at Florida State University, where he was a three-year starter in 3 national championship games, and 2-time academic All-American selection.  A proven leader on and off the filed, Hope founded the iCHOPE Charitable Fund in 2010 to support fundraising efforts in his hometown of Rock Hill, SC.

This is the time of year when our food pantry typically runs pretty low.  We are always grateful to all of our generous food donors - the number of requests for help from hungry families continues to hover around the highest we've seen.  In one moving case, a family that formerly came to us periodically for help with food has reported that they are now back on thier feet - and are routinely bringing in generous donations of their own to give back to others who are still struggling.  In additon, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,  York Ward, as well as the local Knights of Columbus have shown up in the "nick of time" with large donations that helped us keep the doors open.  Besides these larger donations there are a plethora of folks who stop by with a bag or two of groceries to help out.  We appreciate everyone who keeps us going!

For the 13th year in a row, McHale's Irish Pub and our founder, Tricia Kuhlkin, are joining forces to raise much-needed funds for our programs.  The Pilgrims' Inn Irish Open has become a favorite with local golfers, and for good reason.  Mark you calendar now for June 5th, and join us for a great day of golfing starting at 11:00am at the Tega Cay Golf Club - and, you'll definitely want to stick around afterwards for the dinner and awards, held at McHale's Irish Pub in Fort Mill - heck, even if you don't win an award, the food is great and the evening will be full of laughter.  And of course, you get to help provide much-needed funds to help the women, children, and families that come to us for help.

INTERESTING FACT - McHale's is owned by Brendan Kuhlkin, none other than our founder's son.  Pilgrims' Inn has been an important part of Brendan's life since his childhood, and we are so grateful that he carries on his family's tradition of reaching our to those in need in our communities by working so hard to raise funds to support our programs.

The tournament is a four-person Captain's Choice with a 1:00pm shotgun start.  Refreshments are provided on-course during the entire event along with pre-round and post-round food and beverage.
